About

Welcome to Turning a House into a Home. If you’re into amateur DIY on a budget then boy have you come to the right place!

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Karla and I’m a 20-something who’s recently bought and moved into my my first home with my dog Ted. The house is a doer upper but unfortunately buying it hasn’t left much money for the doing upping. However, I’m a pretty stubborn determined creative type so I’m convinced, however naively, that I can do anything I set my mind to.

I’ve definitely taken on quite a project… when I first went to view the house, the estate agent who was showing me around ran down the stairs and out onto the street to vomit when the master bedroom door was opened and the smell burst out. When I first got the keys, the first few weeks were taken up by pulling up carpets covered in cat shit and trying to get rid of the smell of cat wee.

Luckily now that the house is finally stench-free, it’s time to start patching up holes, painting and making it into a home.

I’m sure I’ll make plenty of mistakes along the way, so the intention behind this blog is to record what I’ve done, show how you can do what I’ve done and probably more importantly, what you definitely shouldn’t do (which I’ve learnt the hard way to save you from doing the same).

If you want to see what the house looked like before I started the project, visit my Before page and if you want to get in touch, visit my Contact page where you can email me or follow the links to my Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Instagram.
